Christian Education

Linda Jones, Director of Christian Education

The mission of the Christian Education Program is designed to evangelize and disciple parents and children who are members and visitors of the Church of The Apostles. One of our paramount goals as Christians is found in Matthew 28:19. “Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations…” We specifically accomplish this task by growing Christians (young and old alike) in their journeys. Our Education Program at the Church of The Apostles is designed to guide and supplement personal and family Christian instruction.

Christian education is offered every Sunday from 9:15 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. for adults and children. Adults and children may join these classes at anytime throughout the year.

The classes for children ages 3 through High School follow a three year curriculum.

Little Lights (ages 3 thru kindergarten) and Followers (grades 1 thru 3): The children learn about heroes of the faith, stories from their children’s Bible, and memorize Bible passages. If you ask the children why they come to Sunday School, they will answer: “to learn about God; to pray to God; to praise God; to worship God; to think about God; so we can learn how to pray; so kids know that God created us; learning about God is fun; I love God; God gave me talents and lots of friends; and God died for us all.”

Ambassadors (grades 4-6): The focus of this class is on the Bible, the Sacraments, the Church and its history and famous reformers of the Church. If you ask the child why they are here, they will say: “to learn the Word of God and how to follow in Jesus’ footsteps; to learn how to pray and to teach people more about God.”

Workers (grades 7-9): Using the teen study Bible this class reads and discusses books from the Old Testament.

Disciples (grades 10-12): Through Bible reading, discussions and writing assignments, the students are learning about evangelism, the sovereignty of God and how to apply God’s word in their day to day lives.

Adult Education: Sunday School is not only for children. It is an opportunity for all disciples of Jesus Christ to grow in spiritual maturity. Each Sunday classes for children begin at 9:15 a.m. and adult classes begin at 9:30 a.m. Those who come early can enjoy fellowship and conversation with others, along with a good cup of coffee or tea and often with refreshments. Join us as we grow in Christ together!

Care Groups

The Lord’s design for His Church has always been that those who hear His invitation and decide to follow Him will do so with one another, making disciples together. Church of The Apostles offers opportunities to do this by meeting with others in Care Groups. Care Groups are opportunities to do what the early church did “meeting together, sharing together, praying together, and growing together.”  The early church did this in public gatherings and meeting together in homes: “And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having favor with all the people.” (Acts 2:46)

Care Groups are small groups that meet in homes. We meet for at least 90 minutes and at least every two weeks. We covenant with one another to care for each other. We keep in confidence any personal information we share.  We study God’s Word together, enjoy food and fellowship together, share our lives with one another, and pray together. It is wonderful to build relationships of trust with others who love the Lord, and to grow deeper in our walk with Him.

There is room for you in a Care Group. For more information or to join a group contact the Church Office (401) 821-7609 or Pastor Steve Gammon – pastorsteve@apostlesri.org.
